This past Sunday we began our discussion with a video clip of the movie “Schindler’s List.” Oskar Schindler saved many Jews by buying them from Hitler to work in his factory. At the end of the clip, he realizes not what good he had done, but what he had NOT done to save more lives.

And it is the same for Christians…there will be no second chance to do more once we are standing before the Lord.

We have one brief opportunity, one brief life on this earth, to use our resources to make a difference.

Today is Pentecost Sunday and on this day…
– the Spirit came in power to stay
– the commissioning of the church took place
– the Gospel went forth

It is our great privilege as the end-times church to make the most of the resources we have today to make a difference in our world.

Opening Scripture

2 Corinthians 8:7 (NIV) See that you also excel in this grace of giving.

There was a need in the church in Jerusalem and Paul was calling for the Gentile church to raise support for the Jewish church.

They are told that giving extravagantly and with great faith is a gift of God.

To excel at something you have to:
– get out of the chair and onto the field
– practice
– love what you are doing
– sacrifice

We want to be able to stand before the Lord and hear that we, as a church, excelled at giving.

Why should we excel at this? Everything God asks us to be good at, He has proven Himself to be the example.

1 Corinthians 1:18  For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

What is the “word of the cross?”  “For God so loved the world that He gave…”

The big vision is that Freedom Fellowship would excel at this gift of giving.

Read Romans 12:6-8. Our call today is to develop that gift of giving by contributing to the needs of the saints.

Conclusion

There are some in our church that have the gift of giving but it remains undeveloped.

Stretch your faith to your God who has given all and who always keeps His promises.

Invest your money where it will make the largest impact for the Kingdom in Eternity!

Discussion Questions:

– What holds you back from being an extravagant giver to the Kingdom?
– What steps can we start now to become extravagant givers?
