There are two opposing belief systems in the world today:
Some believe God is nonexistent, or worse “non-God.”
Others believe God is the creator, a vastly superior being who is in control, ever-present and better than me.

The first leads to an indifference concerning eternity
If God does not exist, then whether I’m a human, dog or porpoise doesn’t matter…because when I die, I cease to exist.

The second is a game changer…
If there is a God, then eternity is where He lives.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 “God has put eternity in man’s heart.”
He wants you thinking about it.
He placed it in your heart in the place of desire, so you would yearn for it.

Yes, heaven is for real and knowing about heaven will change your life here on earth.

Heaven is a real place; it is the home of God.
Heaven is ruled by God; it is where His throne and His authority originate from.
Heaven is the promised reward for those who in this life submit to Jesus.

See John 14:1-3

But,The goal is not just to dream about Heaven, but to prepare for it.

This is not about salvation.

Eph. 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Romans 5:17 “For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”

Main Scriptures about the Judgement Seat of Christ:
I Corinthians 3:10-15
II Corinthians 5:10

Understanding the judgement seat of Christ is one of the most important that a Christian can have.

  • Because it prepares you for eternity
  • It motivates a biblical lifestyle.
  • It focuses a life on eternal value.
  • It pulls back the curtain of the unknown and clearly presents to us the step between this life and our eternity with Jesus.

I Corinthians 3:10-11 “According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building on it. But each man must be careful how he builds on it. 11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Spiritual foundations are laid by skillful saints, gifted by God.

Eph 2:20 “ Having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone,”

I Cor. 3:10 “But each man must be careful how he builds on it.”

  • You are the one that builds on the foundation of knowing Jesus Christ.
  • Each person builds the structure that becomes their life and their eternal legacy.

The foundation is Jesus:

  • no more precious gift has ever been given
  • take heed how you build!
  • take heed with what you construct your life!

I Cor. 3:13-15 “For the day will show it…”
What day? The day you die and present yourself before Jesus.
On that day, every believer’s life will be tested by the holiness of God.

Look up:
Revelations 1:14-18

The judgement seat of Christ, where all of our life’s accomplishments will be tried by the Holy fire of God is not about…

  • loss; it’s about great gain.
  • punishment; it’s about reward.
  • the great unknown; it’s about preparing for that day.

The message is this…

  • take heed how you build!
  • take heed with what you construct your life!

If you build your life with…

  • self-interest
  • unforgiveness
  • selfish gain
  • judgement
  • bitterness

Just like a house burned to the ground, you will stand that day in a pile of ashes. The foundation will remain! But there will be no new construction, no “do over”, no restoration, no addition, no remodel. Now is the time to prepare for that time!

You say, “Stop scaring me! Stop ruining my happy place of Heaven I’ve constructed!”

We fear things that are in the future because we don’t know what to expect. But if we know what will happen and are prepared for it, then our fear becomes anticipation.

What are the precious gold and precious stones of eternity?

What has happened to…

  • Holy living?
  • Sacrificial giving?
  • Disciplined living?
  • Dying to self?
  • Sharing Christ and His abundant life?

II Cor. 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”

God will make restitution for it all.

Matt. 25:31-46

What builds rewards is simply loving people the way Jesus loves people.

Stop living selfishly and start living selflessly.

Open your eye and see the fields, not the comfortable chair on the front porch.

We need more concern for others than self.

What are you building in your life?
When it is tested against the Holy fire, what will remain?
Do you want only a foundation and ashes? Or new construction?
